Listeners will delight in these masterful chronicles of the adventures and mishaps of Father Brown. Small, round-faced and engagingly innocent, Brown is a Roman Catholic priest from East Anglia. The Edwardian detective stories of Father Brown are celebrated not only for their popularity, but for the quality of the writing. With the four cases presented here, narrator James Arthur does ample justice to Chesterton's literacy, characterization and style. However, Arthur has a strong, effete personality of his own that clashes with the keen, straightforward observance of the author, not to mention the humility of the priest-detective. He is, nonetheless, entertaining and informed. Y.R. (c) AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine
