Grey’s Anatomy meets Scrubs in this brilliant debut novel about a young doctor’s struggle to survive residency, love, and life.

Having spent the last twenty-something years with her nose in a textbook, brilliant and driven Norah Kapadia has just landed the medical residency of her dreams. But after a disastrous first day, she's ready to quit. Disgruntled patients, sleep deprivation, and her duty to be the "perfect Indian daughter" have her questioning her future as a doctor.
Enter chief resident Ethan Cantor. He's everything Norah aspires to be: respected by the attending physicians, calm during emergencies, and charismatic with his patients. And as he morphs from Norah’s mentor to something more, it seems her luck is finally changing.
But when a fatal medical mistake is made, pulling Norah into a cover-up, she must decide how far she’s willing to go to protect the secret. What if “doing no harm” means putting herself at risk?

Physician Sinha sparkles in her enjoyable and realistic debut about an ambitious 26-year-old Indian American medical resident going through training. Norah Kapadia is facing a lot of pressure to be the perfect Indian daughter and a standout student. On top of that, she feels awkward around men in social situations and painfully aware of still feeling like a shy teenager. After she lands her prestigious internal medicine residency spot at Philadelphia General Hospital, she’s excited to get started—even more so once she meets the chief resident, Ethan Cantor, who starts out as Norah’s mentor and soon becomes the funny, smart, and charming man of her dreams. But as Norah learns, looks can be deceiving. After a member of their team makes a major mistake resulting in a patient’s death, Norah is forced to choose between covering up for her colleague and telling the truth—which may get her fired. The author writes with the expertise of a physician who has slogged through her own residency and training, realistically depicting the insane hours, the need to make life-changing decisions in moments, and the camaraderie among classmates. All dutiful daughters and hard workers will see themselves in Norah. Sinha’s tale is one to savor.

Norah Kapadia, a brilliant medical student, knows all about drugs and their side effects, but the human aspects of patient care baffle her. Narrator Soneela Nankani creates a memorable portrait of Norah with depth, emotion, and humor. Even her performance of Norah's friends; mother; and, in particular, Chief Resident Ethan Cantor, Norah's mentor and love interest, are all striking. Her accents, intonation, and timing enhance the action unfolding in the story. She seamlessly moves Norah from intern to resident and creates a character listeners will laugh and cry with as she makes life-changing decisions--one of which is related to a fatal mistake. Listeners will enjoy this medical novel full of heart and wit, especially as delivered by the talented Nankani. E.E.S. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award © AudioFile 2020, Portland, Maine
