Rylant's Henry and Mudge books are sure to become children's classics. Her ability to create heartwarming stories with so few words is uncanny--she gets to the heart of what's important, scary, happy, and safe--for kids young and old. Part of the beauty of the books, which makes them perfect for beginning readers, is their repetition of words and short sentences. Yet because of the simple text, the narrator must put all of Henry's excitement and trepidation into a powerful, yet downplayed performance. George Guidall does a fine job--his slow, smooth voice is perfect for this story about family expectations and caring. He emphasizes his words and keeps children involved. W.L.S.
